PALESTRA

Laboratorio di movimento e scrittura + installazione partecipativa

Movement and Writing Workshop + Participatory Installation

PALESTRA (“gymnasium”) is a sound installation that invites audiences into immediate participation. It is the outcome of a workshop format combining movement and writing.

Open to participants of all ages and levels of experience, the workshop proposes a series of somatic explorations alongside a writing practice that encourages the creation of brief descriptions—sentences, slogans, instructions, and poetic fragments—in response to one another’s movements. At the heart of the writing process is an invitation to observe bodies with care and tenderness, cultivating an almost obsessive attention to anatomical detail. Seeking to develop a shared vocabulary and syntax, the bodies and lives of those present—together with images drawn from other living creatures—become reservoirs of metaphors and similes for the human body. The result is a catalogue of notes on the body: a collection of highly open-ended anatomical prompts that playfully invite misunderstanding—gestures, postures, and short movement sequences charged with imagination.

This atlas of instructions, read aloud and recorded by the workshop participants themselves, becomes the sonic landscape of PALESTRA, a place that anyone can enter and inhabit. Upon arrival, visitors are invited to embody the suggested movements, interpreting—and misinterpreting—them as freely as they wish, or simply to enjoy the warmth of the space, lingering and resting while listening to the fragments of an imagined choreography.
